Integrating Visualization and Interaction Tools for Enhancing Collaboration in Different Public Participation Settings

The demand for participant engagement in urban planning shows a great need tools that enable communication between stakeholders and make processes more transparent. So far, common methods use different platforms independently. This prevents the full potential effective, efficient, creative collaboration from being realized. Hence, this paper presents an approach combines participation settings (off-site, on-site, online) by using interactive touch table additional screen, as well virtual reality (VR) augmented (AR) devices, synchronizing them real-time. To fulfill requirements, three major technical aspects are addressed concept prototype implementation: Firstly, demands various devices require uniform cross-device interaction concept. Secondly, all changes course of (e.g., adding, manipulating, or removing objects) must be synchronized across real-time, with very low latency. Thirdly, states should saved persistently during process. Detailed empirical usability studies still pending; however, pretests indicate is appreciated, transferability to other given.
